The moon holds the key to fulfillment as characters on Earth rival for affection. A farce and spectacle of a love story by Restoration playwright Aphra Behn, edited by KU doctoral student Gillian Genardo, The Emperor of the Moon is a play based on Italian commedia dell’arte with scenography taking inspiration from midcentury modern architecture and futuristic aesthetic (à la The Jetsons). It’s science fiction meets comic socioeconomic commentary with delightful winks to the audience.
